Chimaera tooth plates poster

A self-sharpening biological tool

In contrast to sharks and rays (Elasmobranchii), chimaera fish (Holocephali) exhibit large pairs of permanent, constantly growing tooth plates (Elasmobranchii + Holocephali = Chondrichthyes). We study the structural reinforcements that maintain chimaera fish tooth plates' functionality despite constant wear. We presented our work at IAFSB (Integrative Approaches in Fish Skeletal Biology, 2018) and at the annual DZG meeting (Deutsche Zoologische Gesellschaft, 2018), and the article will be coming soon..
